Woke Hearsay - Original Sin
Myth-making Canada's Original Sin for the Woke Church.
Americans have a long-storied history. Moments of Triumph. And moments of shame. Canada, likewise, as with any nation has its past glories and fumbles if not a bit muted and in a very Canadian way. This is not to throw shade or vilify either of these two neighbourly nations and their story.
A nations history, warts and all, are a coming of age of that people of that time. Nor does this history need to be completely accurate. There is, generally, underpinning all nations a national myth that transcends reality into meta truth.
Romans would tell of their origin of Romulus and Remus or the contradictory story of Rome originating with the defeat of Troy. America has a well studied and storied history of big personalities. From the frontier people colonizing a new land to worship as they saw fit. Away from the stale monarchs of Europe. They braved the wilds and the warring tribes. They fought off the tyranny of King George in a David vs Goliath struggle to create a “shining nation on a hill”. Manifest Destiny, the civil war, the ending of slavery, civil rights, industrial revolution to the World wars, civil rights, cold war, space race and the American century (empire).
As with every story there are villains, nor are the heroes perfect. Everyone has their flaws. But often this type of mythmaking tends to fall prey into the “arc of history” bending towards progressive dystopia.
Or the leftist naysayers would quote Howards Zinn or 1619 project and other sophistry. While there is a point, a truth underlining about the failures of America. The leftist naysayers latch on to any and every failure to burn down the past and start from year zero. The forever now. Just consume and repeat the propaganda.
Canada has a muted history that sadly, for many modern Canadians, boils down to “I’m not American! [but boy do I wish I was!]” Canada’s are taught a very sterilized version of history. The idea that a particular group of people in a particular time formed a nation is alien to the typical Canadian. Other than Anglo vs Franco divide or the left vs west or the Natives vs “colonist” (settlers). Your average Canadian has very little granular knowledge and understanding of Canadian history. But they consume American media regularly (still better than the CBC).
All Canadian events are understood in the context of American/international events. Our action in WWI and WWII as vicious and relentless fighters. Canadians have a feeling of unearned superiority to Americans. Like a younger brother desperately trying to match up to an older more successful brother. Or a guy with a short man complex.
Canadian history while similar is often a rhyme or a road not taken for the American. Canadians were confronted with many similar challenges.
Both Canada and America had to determine what to do with the Indian tribes. More peaceful tribes allied with settlers to evict the ruling tribes (a story as old as time). While America has the Trail of Tears and Slavery. Canada had the final stop for the underground railroad and residential schools.
Woke is fundamentally a Christian hearsay. It is specific to each region and that people. It follows the same fundamental subverted code. Instead of Original Sin based in Pride “ye will be gods”. The Woke religion insists on an Original Sin of “racism” from chattel slavery. Doubtless, slavery, especially in its modern ‘chattel’ form, is dehumanizing and evil but is it the source of all other evil?
Progressives demand that we convert the beautiful verse (Gen 1:27):
So, God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
To the essential woke creed: “all humans are completely interchangeable in every conceivable way”.
Once this pesky mantra is formed and spoken all groups must have identical outcomes. “They don’t! Shocking!” Well, it must be those pesky material conditions causing differences in group outcomes. If that class analysis fails, no problem! Just move up to the racial analysis and racist structures/systems or the ‘Racism of the Gaps’ argument.
Racism or discrimination based on race cannot be the over-arching sin through which all other sins flow. Racism is contained within pride, to believe oneself superior to others. Whereas pride acts outside of race, and it is the sin by which all other sins flow. The thought that one could be God. To know better than God. To become God. To displace God.
Like all pseudo religions it becomes mired in the mundane and debauched. “Do not cast pearls before swine.” The US’ founding myth for the vengeful leftist is that of slaves who were never truly freed. Instead, blacks in America are perpetual victims who just want to make families do drugs and live debauched lives (by cops, judges, lynching whites, politicians, etc…) Body Cams be damned.
Canada on the other hand dabbled in these shallow ecstasies but never really hit its stride. We are not America. We do not have the same race relations. Other than natives the majority of non-white Canadians are recent additions to the country. St. Floyd caused some stir across Canada but nowhere near the staying power.
Instead, a narrative needed to be crafted specifically for Canada. On to undermine all aspects of Canada. To claim it was actually rotten to begin with. That is why we need a revolution TM. Of course this revolution is a safe and commodified revolution that neatly contains the violent desires of the young disaffected and scared youth towards safe targets of the manager class. ‘I’m a rebel! That means I fight against my governments enemies!’
A chief is smarter than a feather, but if the feather was smarter, it would wag the chief.
