Stan Rogers is a longtime favourite of mine. I saw him once in concert when I was very young and he was near the end of his life (he died in a tragic accident). His music was about the heart of Canada.
The West has lived in a state of planned, willful destruction (to create a supposed utopia) since the early 1960s. This has been a form of totalitarianism. Which destroys everything that man requires to give meaning to life.
There are some exceedingly destructive SOBs out there. Who play with minds in order to do their dirty work.
I am glad to say that I remain Christian. By that I mean authentic (mainstream) Christianity.
I'm working on another one on the quiet revolution.
Reading a book called that Catholic origins of the Quiet revolution.
Its quite informative so far.
But yes I completely agree I don't think there is a way out other then establishing a stronger connection to our Christian faith to heal our culture and communities.
I was raised conservative Roman Catholic, Andrew. From family lines that had practiced since the 4th century. I left for a time in my youth, but later returned. Life is barren without a spiritual connection to something bigger than you are, but which connects you to mankind as well. I will certainly take balanced religion over the growing spate of mental illness out there, due to living in a void controlled by devious political puppetmasters.
Although the Vatican has a Deep State too. Do you know the interviews by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano?
Quebec has wanted so much to "keep their culture" although ironically, they threw out the biggest part of it in the form of Catholicism.
I've seen some of the stuff by Vigano. I had one priest complained to me about the "Lutheranism" of the Pope's comments on blessings and "trans people"
Separating the body from the soul and ignoring the personal injury of sin. Really put into words my feelings on Pope. not that I would leave the Roman Church, just trying to submissively but respectfully follow in faith and God's plan.
Its baffled me in regards to Quebec. Thats Why I started researching and its eye opening.
TLDR (for the piece I'm writing/reading on) They placed modernist values above Christ.
Ie: A generational conflict was created between clergy and youth. The youth tended towards a wish for socialized programs rather then Church. The youth tended towards "authentic faith"
Authentic faith became a very high minded understanding of Christ. Which in of it self was not bad. But they distained the simple worship of simple folk.
basically if you didn't understand the big and deep concepts "you we're REALLY catholic"
Push for nuclear family and female "liberation".
Females became used to using contraceptive because of a misunderstanding (rhyme method was permissible but others thought condoms/birth control was too) So they became used to using it and fell away.
Culturally the nuclear family became an emphasis on couples pleasure/fulfillment rather then reproduction as a duty of marriage.
I need to finish the last 2 chapters tho.
To my mind, it looks as if many were swept up in the times.
The Massification, the modern-ification and the Last men (personalists, like Pierre Trudeau)
Its big topic so I have to chew on it more.
But I don't think it was unique to Quebec. If anything it just started and spread out in form of our new elite structure
It is good that you are scratching the surface on these large issues, Andrew. They concern us all, in the end.
I am a woman, actually. Middle-aged. So I am sure I am older than you and have experienced some different things. I grew up refusing to become a feminist, and have held that stance throughout my life. I recognized it as a totalitarian ideology from the start. Made university more difficult, but I persevered. The nuclear family is in freefall, most unfortunately.
I heard stories of the Depression and WWII years from older family while growing up. They survived all of that. We will survive our hurdles too. We can hope for a better world to rise from the ashes.
Very nice chatting with you, Andrew. I must go now, but we may cross paths again here.
My way forward includes being hopeful and grateful. And facing reality for what it is, as opposed to what we want it to be.
Do you know the Stockdale Paradox? Observations of James Stockdale, American soldier captured in North Vietnam who survived POW camp there, and attempted to work out why some survived while others did not. Similar to Viktor Frankl's, "Man's Search for Meaning".

Stan Rogers in his iconic, "Northwest Passage".
I've never heard this!
This is what Canada has lost. generational exchange of Canadian identity!

A fellow Catholic! Good to meet you brother!
Completely life is so much more with faith!

My apologizes. My bad assumption!
Exactly. I'm glad to hear and would love to hear some time about some of those things.
Its always wonderful to hear different perspectives from people across Canada. I have a very local understanding of Canada from Ontario.
I tended towards sciences in university and only afterwards noticed the lunacy that had begun as it crept into biology.
We will persevere and overcome! God willing.
