Chapter 3: Complacency
The first response by Trudeau’s Liberal Party was a sycophantic adherence to open borders. After years of progressive virtue signaling to ‘dump the Drumpf!” and taking the most extreme position: ‘borders are racist’. It was hard to come around to the idea of closing off Canada to the world when according to Hajdu, “no country is an island.”1 Questioning the W.H.O or the CCP, according to the Liberal Regime, was peddling conspiracy theories. Trudeau famously stated “there’s a level of admiration I actually have for China. Because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime”2
Liberal’s close and creepy relationship with radicals in China going back to before the revolution (1880s). Encouragement of the radical and murderous elements in China through powerful progressive Canadians. Canadian ‘Missionary kids’, who grew up in China, “Mish kids” were labelled ‘China experts’ and often found a job “advising” Canada or China. Most were very sympathetic if not avowedly Marxist/Maoist.3 4 Pierre Trudeau also had strange affection for every socialist he could find, from Hitler to Castro to Mao. Pierre Trudeau met with Mao in 1949 and 1960 and helped to get China recognized on the world stage. Trudeau Sr. along with his two sons (Justin and one of is brothers) went to Tiananmen square shortly after the massacre and “made great pains to avoid criticizing the actions of Beijing’s leadership.”37
Amidst this backdrop of deep state love of China, controversy broke into the open. The detainment of Meng Wanzhou, daughter to the CEO of Huawei, and CFO of that same company causing an international incident. Canadian authorities detained Ms. Wanzhou for an extradition warrant to America. Much of the CCP efforts in Canada was based on the sad emotional response of Canadians, “at least we aren’t Americans!”. This combined with the attack of calling any criticism of the Chinese Communist Party racist successfully placates most Canadians.5 Most Canadian’s kneejerk reaction of anti-American sentiments to the arrest of Wanzhou, would have played well for the CCP any other time in history. The CCP, however, overplayed their hand. A vassal state is not to arrest a Chinese citizen! Quickly reacting, the CCP arrested two Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor under dubious circumstances and charges.6 The general population became more CCP-skeptic from the arbitrary detention of these Canadians followed by the highly publicized Hong Kong protests.
Trudeau however would continue to signal a desire for close relations and friendship to the CCP. During the start of the pandemic his Public Health Agency of Canada sent 16 tonnes of personal protective equipment (PPE) to China in February.7 Sadly, it appears little of these supplies went to support Wuhan and instead either languished or were sent by China later to other countries.8 Never let a crisis go to waste. This would come back to bite Trudeau’s government when a couple months later the Canadian Medical Association noted there as a critical shortage of PPE.9 Of course, the Liberals attempted to deflect blame from this PR blunder by claiming most of the PPE donated7 was about to expire (deflection) and provinces should have ensured they had their own reserves (shifting the blame).
Worse, they went back to the slanderous accusation of racism when conservative MP Derek Sloan (leadership candidate for the party) called for the firing of Dr. Tam. He questioned her loyalty to Canada implying that she was loyal to the W.H.O and the CCP.10 Once again, the media covered up the Liberal’s closeness to CCP and the CCP mismanagement of the pandemic called someone questioning their narrative a racist. Shocking! This was politicking by the liberals and media to avoid responsibility for their mismanagement of the virus outbreak.
Dr. Tam herself can be viewed via a video in which she advocates for draconian lockdowns and vaccine passports from 2010 National Film Board of Canada show called ‘OUTBREAK: Anatomy of a Plague’.11 Dr. Tam, according to her McGill bio,12 is “fighting for equity” and other leftist dog whistles that would lead to questionable decisions such as calling concerned Canadians racist, downplaying Covid-19 then going full tyrant, suggesting ethnic groups get vaccines prior to vulnerable groups13 and denying basic science like herd immunity.14 15 Herd immunity is a complex topic; this would, however, continue the trend of Dr. Tam’s heavy handed attack and deal with the consequences later approach. At no point did Dr. Tam commission a risk analysis of any of her or other popular Public Health policies.
Biology (according to my opinion) is the science with exceptions. Think of a rule and there is probably some crazy thing that breaks it, but the rule generally holds. Consistently, due to panic or fear or opportunism, established rules of virology were cast aside with shouts of “Trust the SCIENCE!”. It is safe to say 99% of pathogens have some form of herd immunity, there can be a variety of levels in which it kicks in, but it exists. Same with immunity. Most diseases, especially seasonal diseases, cause an adaptive immune system to prevent re-infection. But consistently (often following progressive Americans) ‘trust the science’ would devolve into ‘covid-19 is a disease unlike any we have seen before, and we don’t know if it will cause immunity or if herd immunity will work’. Sure, it is possible that this disease is the 1 in a million disease that does not follow the pattern, but it is highly unlikely. So unlikely that it cannot be the starting point. It is as if laws of gravity will not apply to a new object. Or if a person you just met is going to punch you in the face for no reason. It’s possible but very, very, very unlikely so why are we starting at the most unlikely situation?
This policy position of assuming the worst (after the lax approach) was a deeply irresponsible position from Dr. Tam and other health advisers. This of course would not help prevent covid spread and did not prevent spread of hysteria. We are told the lax method of Public Health Officials originally adopted was thinking of economic impact. Okay. But then the switch from 0 to 100? Furthermore, the psychopathic media that loved the fear porn clicks and turned ‘no evidence of acquired immunity’ into ‘fact check false; covid does not confer immunity’. Sadly, combating hysteria seemed to be against the Covid plan.
Dr. Tam, a race obsessed progressive to hide her incompetence, held the position as chief doctor since 2017 and played a prominent role in the first SARs outbreak. She had a desire to lock everyone down as hard as possible and worry about the consequences later, exactly opposite of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms mindset of minimal impact of right infringement. Dr. Fauci loved every position equally and wanted to hold them all whenever it was convenient, the slippery eel. Dr. Fauci from America made an Olympic sport of self-contradiction to hide his complicity in funding and support of gain of function research work at the Wuhan institute of Virology. Dr. Tam, on the other hand, did enjoy the power of Public Health Pandemic response and laurels but was more mooted and reserved.
In June, while most students and Canadians were still in lockdown without in person graduations, Dr. Tam would pose to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Simon Fraser University (British Columbia) from Janice Charette (Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet). Covid is very serious! For you at least. Because you are too stupid to make a personal risk assessment. But Regime acolytes are always free because their work is just so important. They may have broken the rules, but it was for a good reason! It was “for the greater good”. But what has Dr. Tam done except call people racist, flip-flop on closing borders, and overseen bans on effective and safe drugs (such as ivermectin). She caused more death and needless suffering? Ah! But we are reaching dangerous wrong-think, and it would be unwise to venture into areas that Facebook might disapprove of according to Pickering-Uxbridge MP Jennifer O’Connell.
Dr. Tam walked back her herd immunity comments almost a year later when she was talking about the start of the vaccine roll out and hoping to get 90% to 95% of people vaccinated.16 Still, however, keeping to overly cautious numbers as a healthy young person is at no serious risk from Covid-19. In over 13 months17 the virus has killed 6 under 19 years-old (with all these persons having a pre-existing condition) and 133 between 20 and 40 years old. Covid-19 targets elderly people and persons with pre-existing health conditions such as obesity.
Forgiveness and patience can be extended for the early portion of the pandemic. Most were willing to sacrifice ‘two weeks to flatten the curve.’ 13 months later, when ScienceTM has replaced science and there is no end in sight, the ever-increasing destruction of fundamental freedoms are pushing many to their breaking point. The first part of the pandemic led to a true ‘all in this together. It is also important to note that the mask mandate for Ontario did not start until October 3, 2020.18 The data suggests the ‘second wave’ was worse. Shockingly, during the time that the mask mandate was implemented, and it appears to have had little to no impact. One could argue that less tests occurred during the first wave or other excuses. But that would just support the now proven theory of a seasonal disease.
Shut It Down!
In March Canadians, began to be worried about the percolation of information from China. Panic buying began with toilet paper at an alarming rate. Hand sanitizers and other hygiene products were grabbed quickly leading to some shortages. Covid cases were now popping up in Canada reaching 59 on March 12th leading to the provincial government (under Premier Doug Ford) to announce that all publicly funded schools will be closed from March 14th to April 5th, 2020.19 This news was announced at around 3:30 as schools were getting out for March break the next week. Most teachers and students, after the slog of winter term, were more than happy to have an extra two weeks off for March Break. And paid! Parents of course were none too happy as most had about a week to plan for kids that did not have their usual daycare (school) to go to.
Ontario would continue onwards and lockdown the rest of the province after the first death (a 77-year-old man in Barrie) from Covid was reported on March 17th.20 “Stay home, stay informed, stay healthy and stay calm." Was the message from Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario. Most did stay home, other than the busy grocery stores and government run liquor stores (can’t close the liquor stores!) Ontario was a ghost town.
Quebec’s shut down began on March 12th, for 14 days. After these arbitrary two weeks a similar pattern would develop of not removing restrictions because covid cases! Or of continuing to add more and more restrictions as all efforts were ineffective.21 Quebec would also mandate masks provided by the government for public workers. These masks turned out to be toxic (SNN200642) and manufactured in China.22 A curfew would be put into place by Premier Francois Legault on January 9th, 2021, and start at 7:30pm. This curfew order was put into place for four weeks that only ended on May 28, 2022, after the Convoy. Legault, like Ford did not want to appear to have been swayed by the Convoy so he clung to these stupid policies38 with slight changes of end time (to 9:30 pm than back to 8pm).24
Manitoba’s premier, Brian Pallister would announce a state of emergency on March 20th, 2020.25 Saskatchewan would announce a state of emergency on March 18th followed by expanded Covid-19 restrictions and suspending schools indefinitely on March 20th under Premier Scott Moe.26 Restrictions would begin on March 12th in Alberta under Jason Kenney with states of emergency being issued on March 17th.27 British Columbia under John Horgan would declare a health emergency on March 17th followed by a state of emergency the next day, March 18th.28
On March 22th a state of emergency was declared for Nova Scotia under Premier Stephen McNeil.29 On March 19th a state of emergency was declared for New Brunswick under Premier Blaine Higgs.30 On March 16th Premier Dennis King announced a state of public health emergency for Prince Edward Island (PEI).31 On March 18th public health emergency restricted public gatherings and continued on March 21th to order closure of “non-essential stores” in Newfoundland under Premier Dwight Ball.32 33 These small provinces (population wise) would enter into an ‘Atlantic Bubble’ in July until case spikes and eventual collapse in November 2020.34 35 In the territories up north, having smaller populations and being more remote, were generally less hit and did not often have lockdowns formally in place. Nunavut declared a state of emergency on March 18th, 2020, under Premier Joe Savikataaq and continually extending the emergency order until September, only to reinstate in November for one case.36 To date (April 9th, 2021) Nunavut has had 395 cases and 4 deaths.37
